Singapore is famed as a clean and green city. Tourists often marvel at how trash-free our streets are.
However, how much of it is due to the efforts of individuals?
If there are no cleaners, would Singapore still be so clean? There were reports of how a neighbourhood became filled with litter after the cleaners stopped cleaning because of money issues.
If there are no rubbish bins, would Singapore still be so clean?

DIY: Minnie / Mickey gloves for Halloween

The theme for my 21st birthday was cartoon characters so guests have to dress up as cartoon characters. :)
I was dressed as Minnie Mouse so I needed gloves. I had to serve guests so I couldnt wear the big gloves that I found in gift shops.
So..............
I got furry gloves from Daiso ($2) and sewed the lines with very very very long black threads. :)
Cheap and pretty!!!!! Great Halloween idea!

Setting up! |
It might sound a lot but honestly it is DAMN hard to keep to the cap. In the end, I had 35-40. haha. There was another function going on in the next room and some stayed around the pool.. So i guessed we confused them a little.
I think a condo function room is better than a chalet. the small size forces people to mingle and talk with each other, especially across different cliques.
i got a few of my friends to help me set up and decorate the place. so they were in charge of hanging banners, blowing balloons and stuff. :D
(the girl in green was supposed to be Pebbles from Flinstones.)
The road to planning a 21st birthday celebration: the CAKE

I spent sooooooo much time trying to find the perfect cake, design and flavour.
Some bakeries had good designs but bad reviews on taste. Some had good flavour but looked like those neighbourhood ones. Some had form and function but were tooo bloody expensive.
Initially I wanted a fondant cake because it looks soooo pretty! but fondant cakes normally costs around $250 for 30 people.... :O A significant portion of the weight of a fondant cake goes to the fondant. So a 1kg fondant cake will feed significantly lesser people than a 1kg normal cake.
So the search goes on.............
I chanced upon a old Straits Times article on the 50 yummiest cakes in Singapore. On first reading, my impression was "aiya, must be all from hotels lah. cannot afford lah".
But WOOOOO HOOOO! I found the bakery that I wanted. Not only was Pine Garden on the list, 2 of its cakes made it! Pretty rare for a neighbourhood cake shop. I have a soft spot for all things neighbourhood which makes it big so i just had to check it out.
there were sooo many raves about their cakes! Not only was the price good, they do customisations!
They are really very nice. they did not ask me for a deposit. they really have a lot of faith in the goodness of mankind. wonder what they will do to the cake for the peeps who fly kite..
(there were hiccups tho..... but that is another story for another time.. )
Ultimately, i got a lychee martini cake designed to match my minnie outfit. Oh, the irony.
haha. the entire party has a very deep meaning.

- lychee martini symbolises my coming of age.
- the cartoon theme party is in hopes that everyone will continue to embrace their childlike innocence.
- and finally my minnie costume is to remind me that classics never go out of fashion. i hope that i will be able to maintain my funk and that it will never go out of style. simply put, i will continue to do stupid things and yet still be be loved and accepted. :)
Total damage: $103 for a 1.5kg lychee martini cake (fed 35 people)
PS: their customisation charges seems to be cheaper when your order in the shop as compared to ordering online. :)

I tried this when I was in Korea and fell in love with it!! The creamy caramel one is sweet but super addictive.
When I saw it on Gmarket, I just had to get it. It is cheaper than the Korean shops here. Best part: door-to-door delivery. Re-delivery is free too (some door-to-door delivery service charge $5 for re-delivery.)

My FAVOURITE hair product!! This is very hard to find in Singapore. I shipped it in after I read many good reviews online. Paid $10+++. But it is worth every penny!
I have never liked a hair product that much. And I have used plenty. I only need a little bit (1-2 drops) to make my hair smooth. It is a very very very very good anti-frizz product. My hair is naturally curly so it frizzes very easily. the humid weather worsens it. this product tames my hair without weighing it down. LOVE IT!
best of all, it is made with organic products. there are no animal by-products and is cruelty free!
it smells nice. It is sweet. Reminds me a bit of Herbal Essence shampoo.
MUST BUY PRODUCT! SUPER RAVE!
I shipped it in using www.iherb.com. International airmail only costs $4 for orders less 1.8kg!!
Use this checkout code: XEW820 to get $5 off first order! (which means free shipping! J )

Review: 100% Pure Free Range Chicken Poop Lip Balm

The name caught my eye and i just had to buy it! :D (Note: it does not contain chicken poop)
It has the essentials of a good lip balm! It is not waxy or sticky. It is smooth to apply and great at moisturising!
Best part: it is all-natural. Whatever is used on lips is likely to get ingested. It is essential that the lip balm does not have chemical/cancer-causing junk.
It smells like lavender which is nice. It really smells like the essential oil used in aromatherapy. However, the smell/taste is not overpowering. This is good for relaxation or when I have insomnia. But it might be pretty weird for kisses. Haha.
A slightly negative point: The one that I received did not have a flat surface. It was concave. This made the initial few applications rather hard as only the edges touched my lips
Cost: US$2. Cheaper than most lip balms in Singapore.

Review: BROS water bottle

Meet my new water bottle!
I always feel that it is very dodgy to use inferior water bottles. The toxic from the bottle can get dissolved into the water and ingested into my system. With all the scary stories about cancer, it is better to play safe.
My new water bottle is from a Malaysia brand, BROS (http://www.bros.com.my/our_bottles.asp). It complies with FDA and LFGB standards. Dont really know what that means but it sounds very powderful. :D
It is really odourless. When I first opened it, it did not have the strong chemical smell which other inferior bottles have.
It can take up to 120 degrees! This is good because I like to drink warm drinks when I'm in a air-conditioned room.
Most importantly, it has a nice design (http://www.bros.com.my/collection.asp?catid=C003&brandid=&keyword=#1 for designs) and not expensive! I have seen bottles in departmental stores like Taka and Metro which costs $30++. Mine only cost RM13-ish which is around S$6. Super cheap for its quality. I bought it in City Square when it was on discount. :)
Be sure to get the Crystal Plus version. It does not have BPA (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A for the scary health effects of BPA)
I believe Singapore has it as well. I think some departmental stores have them. Leave a comment if you've seen them around! :)
Review: Lipice sample

I got a free sample from Lipice via Facebook. It took pretty long to deliver. I didnt even remember that I had registered for the free sample! :x
It is very small compared to the usual sized lipbalm (refer to pic). But it means that it is super convenient to carry around. I doubt it will last long. But the size is soo cute!
I got the strawberry flavoured one. it actually smells like a mix between strawberry and cherry. abit like the smell of Hi Chew but less sweet. the smell is not too overpowering.
I love the menthol feeling after i apply it. Not sticky at all. Good for hot weather!!

Review: Free guidebook from Korea Tourism Organisation

Pictures of the free travel guide book from the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO).
It contains information on attractions and coloured pictures. It also includes the subway map of key places. The second picture shows a page on Busan and the subway map.
Some of the places in this guidebook are not even found in Lonely Planet! My travel buddy rarely took her Lonely Planet out even though it costs almost $50!
It includes a map of Seoul, map of Korea and the Seoul subway map.
Third picture is the Seoul map and Seoul subway map.
It also has a section on common korean phrases and a accommodation list.Overall, it exceeded my expectations for a free travel guide.
Good job KTO!! <3

Only Aesthetics QPX - 1 month after session 1

I have survived 1 month of shaving. haha.
i can say for certain that the first session really did not have much impact. so please for those who intend to go for permanent hair removal, DO NOT EPILATE OR USE ANY CREAM. just shave!
The treatments are supposed to target the roots of the hair. Epilation or hair removal cream destroys the roots. Hence, the effectiveness of the treatment will definitely be affected.
I still cannot conclude on the effectiveness of QPX. Cant wait for my next session.
Yongku did alert me to a good point. Only Aesthetics did not do a sensitivity check on my skin before zapping it or applying the gel.
They must be very confident that their product will not cause any bad reactions. To be on the safe side, girls with sensitive skin better ask about their products before committing to any packages. <3

Review: HTC Incredible S
9:58 PM

I lost my Iphone 4 last month so I got a HTC Incredible S.
What I like about it:
- Android system - the android system is so easy to play around. i could change the theme and lock screen easily. I did not have to jailbreak the phone to customise it.
What I dont like about it:
Function/Usage:
- TOOOOOOO laggish. I have yet to try other android phones so im not sure if its the software or the hardware of the phone. Regardless, it is starting to piss me off. Even something as simple as typing an SMS is sooo frustrating. it lags so badly at times.
- it is soo hard to take a screenshot. I have yet to find out how. i went through some forums but it seems too troublesome. :x it is soooo much easier on a iphone
- the iphone camera has a wider angle... no more group shots with this phone.
- i cannot see the name of the carrier. if i put my phone on silent i dont know if im roaming or not. i dont know if this can be solved with a rooted phone tho.
- music apps cannot be switched off easily. in the iphone 4, music apps can be switched off by holding the home button and flipping to the right. however, in htc incredible S, only the music player can be switched off that easily. the music player can be switched off by pulling down the menu and tapping on the pause button. However, for all other apps, like the radio, i need to tap into the app before i can off it. a bit too troublesome for my liking.
Personalisation:
- HTC sense. some really love the system, but not me. i prefer to be able to customise the bottom row of standard icons like in a iphone. i would also like to see what apps are in a folder. fortunately, i could easily download a app to change the theme and customise the home page.
- i also dont like the fact that i cannot customise the quick setting in the pull down menu. I had to download a app which is triggered by holding the search button to customise the settings that i wanted.
Form:
- Battery life. really sucks. worse than Iphone. sometimes, it cannot even last 3 hours. i have to carry the cable everywhere and i bought a spare battery.
- the casing is plastic which is a lot less classy than the iphone (i do feel less guilty when i drop my HTC. haha.)
- Ultimately, HTC incredible S is not a flagship model. It was meant to be a cheaper alternative. I can live with its quirks for its price. I only paid $58 with a 2 year Starhub contract. :)
