Review: Sunshine Wholemeal Cream Roll

Sunshine Cream Roll, $0.85, NTUC Fairprice
No Trans fat. Healthier choice logo at the bottom

I got the Sunshine Wholemeal Cream Roll, Raspberry Flavour from NTUC. It looked pretty good. It had the Healthier Choice logo and had no Trans fat. It was not overly sweet. But the jam was surprisingly crunchy.

Initially, I thought it was the seeds from the jam. If it had been, I would have been impressed. Sadly, it was sugar! The sugar had not dissolved in the jam. It was as though the manufacturers just poured sugar out of sugar packets and forgot to stir!

Sugar for added crunch?

Super fail, I would not buy it again.

Review: Nestle Breakaway

This is super shiok, super addictive. It comes in a row of 5 (or 6, I cant remember. They were gone in a flash). I could only find this in the Market Place at Raffles City and not in normal supermarkets. They were on sale, maybe $2 or $3. Usual price would probably be double that.

The chocolate is like KitKat but the chocolate coating is more generous than Kitkat.
The center tastes very distinctly like digestive biscuits. I could taste the oat.

I would say that it tastes most similar to the dark chocolate digestive biscuits from Marks & Spencer.

On top of its awesome taste, it is only 99 calories
To put things in perspective, the UK four-finger Kit Kat contains 233 dietary calories and the two-finger Kit Kat contains 107 calories. Marks & Spencer Dark Chocolate Digestive Biscuits has 85 calories in a single biscuit.
Breakaway is also more filling (probably because its made up digestive biscuit and not wafer).
Fewer calories + more filling = slimmer waistline + satisfaction!

Would definitely buy again!

Review: Edmund Cafe at SMU

Muffin from Edmunds Cafe, SMU ($1.80)

The muffin was okay for its price ($1.80). The chocolate chips were pretty generous but the muffin itself was average. Apparently, it was featured on the Straits Times a few years back.
I prefer the the muffin at the store below School of Accountancy. It is better and cheaper ($1.50). And have better service.

The auntie at Edmund's Cafe gave a very snappy "what do you want?" when I was ready to order. It was 4.30pm on a Saturday.

She proceded to take out a muffin from the fridge and placed it in a bag directly.
Yes, she expected me to eat the muffin cold, straight from the fridge. From my previous experiences, I was always asked if I wanted the muffin warmed up.
So disappointed with the service.

People watching at Starbucks

A dad carrying his baby girl stands outside McDonalds. She is attracted by the bells and makes a quick turn. Her pony tail smacks her Dad. He swipes it away gently and smiles.

A toddler holding a McDonalds ice cream cone. She walks with such careful steps, as though she is holding her most prized possession. She licks the ice cream, being ever so careful to prevent it from dropping. Alas, it starts to drop. She looks at her grandfather for help  with eyes as though her world is going to crumble.

Review: Toffee Nut Frappuccino

$7.90 for grande. (10% rebate with citibank)
I actually ordered the Dark Cherry Mocha but was given the Toffee Nut instead. Oh well.
I could taste the toffee. It was strong but not overwhelming.

People with a sweet tooth would love this. It was sweet but acceptable for me.

News: true love?

Like a happy ending in a love story.
[Focus on the fact that he bothered to rummage through trash and not that he was lucky enough to find the ring in an hour]

Having a bad day?

Harry potter!
These videos are sure to make you go "Awwwwwwwww~"
OMG. The owl looks so cute!
It is sooooo docile! I want one too!
The captions are awesome too! Love it when the jealous owl turned his head and gave the whatever look.

Madagascar!
He looked sooo disappointed when the lady stopped! HAHA.
Sometimes, when life gets tough, it never hurts to ask for help (whether by words or by a innocent look)

Simpsons in Singapore: Hang He Kuay Chap

Simpsons  in Singapore!

Tong Bourdain: "Marge, you've got to check out this some of this Hang Ke Kuay Chap"
Marge: "Oooh! Triple spicy barbeque stingray stuffed with pig organs!"

I have no idea what is Hang He Kuay Chap. There is no such thing in Singapore!
It is a weird combination of 2 dishes. I dont think it is even possible to create this dish! Singapore's stringray dish is flat, a bit like fish. I dont think it is possible to stuff it with anything. It is also not sturdy enough to stand on a stick.
(Kuay Chap can also be spelt as Kway Chup, Kway Chap, Kuay Chap)
(Hang He can also be spelt as Heng He, Hung He)

AWESOME that Singapore is featured on Simpsons though!! :)

What the food really looks like
There is Kuay Chap in Singapore. It is actually a braised pig's innards with pork, braised eggs, beancurd served with flat rice noodles.

There is barbeque Stingray (Hang He) too. No, it is not served on a stick like on the video. It is, however, served on banana leaf (at certain stalls).

News: 5 year old raped in McDonalds

What is the world coming to?
The golden arches was supposed to be a symbol of fun - a place where the family can satisfy themselves on the golden brown fries and the burgers while the kids play in the little playground with the little balls. Sadly, it is now tainted with the horrors of a rape.

How can Ronald Mcdonalds still smile so widely?

Review: Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino

$6.60 for a grande. (10% rebate if you use Citibank credit card)

I don't really like this. It does not have a strong chocolate taste. I could taste the bitterness of the presumably dark chocolate but not the richness of the chocolate.

Probably would not order this again.

I MISS THE MOCHA I HAD AT A SMALL CAFE IN SEOUL. that was god-like.

Oh, some nutritional information for you Starbucks coffee lovers:

Check out Hardwarezone forum thread: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=3486069

In essence, SMRT is looking to hire mainland Chinese for customer service job.
Criteria:
  1. Salary: S$850 - S$900 with extra S$200 as housing allowance and compensation for shift work and overtime hours
  2. She (yes, they specified gender) has to be fluent in Mandarin and English
  3. Pleasant looking
  4. Working hours: 44 hours per week
Wow oh wow! No wonder they are not hiring Singaporeans!
How are they going so survive on $1150 in Singapore?
Rent, utilities, food, transport will definitely exceed that amount!

Could it lead to social problems if they resort to other means to survive?

People watching at Starbucks: the freeloaders

I am at Starbucks again, trying very hard to study.

Beside me are 2 girls actually mugging hard! They are not talking, not using the com, nothing to waste time (yes, unlike me).

But, the thing is. they did not get anything from Starbucks. They just plonked themselves onto the seats, took out their worksheets and started studying. At least I bothered to get a mocha frap.

I just saw a middle-aged guy walk into Starbucks, got a free iced water and walk out as though he owns the place.

Motivation to look good

Guess how old this lady is.

According to the article in Stomp, she is 43!
Wow oh wow!!
Can you believe that she has 2 kids? Yummy mummy!
Can you believe that she is all natural?

Sigh, but beauty comes at a price. She spends 5 hours a day taking care of her skin.

Among her beauty tips are: drink lots of water, apply sunscreen and live heathily

I don't think I can be that diligent when it comes to beauty. All natural is good, but  is it worth 1/5 of my life?
It just makes me wonder if i should just resort to technology to achieve the same results when the need arises.

Impressing the babes/dudes

Im at Starbucks now, people watching and eavesdropping on conversations (yes, Im supposed to be studying).

Beside me is a group of 4 students (2 guys, 2 ladies) “studying”. One of the girls sounds like she is trying soo hard to impress. She went to take water for the guys (yes, with the starbucks cup) and kept dissing herself to stay “relevant” to the conversation.

I have to admit. I went through that phase before - the phase where I just wanted people to notice me (all the better if they were guys). Maybe, just maybe I could be like the ladies in the Idol dramas where the girl who was not loved before finds herself in the middle of a love triangle (or rather, a side of the love triangle).

Oh, the innocence of teenagers.

Wonder who needs the wakeup call, me or the girl?

Should we embrace cultural differences?

Should we embrace cultural differences?

According to the Wall Street Journal, racial discrimination is pervasive in Singapore rental market. The ads specify against some people of certain races or nationalities (most often Indians and Chinese) and state the preference for other races/nationalities. This trend arises from certain stereotypes of specific categories of people.

Well, there was a incident where a Chinese successfully prevented a Singaporean Indian family from cooking curry because the Chinese did not like the smell. This incident gave rise to cook-a-pot-of-curry day.

Is this sufficient to scare off Singaporean home owners?
Is this a case of tit-for-tat?
If it is, then is is a stereotype of the Chinese?

Singaporeans just love our curry

Hurray! McDonalds will not be discontinuing its curry sauce!!!!

What would we have done with our fries and nuggets without the curry sauce?

McDonald's responded to the complains by  Netizens who were worried that McDonalds would discontinue its curry sauce.
Countless forum posts and FB posts were on the issue.

Singapore seems to get worked up whenever curry sauce is concerned
(We had our Cook-a-pot-of-curry Day in August 2011 in response to a case when a family of Indian Singaporeans had to stop cooking curry when their neighbours who are from China complained about the smell of curry)

Tip: cold water

Shiny hair guaranteed!
Start a wash with warm water,
End a wash with a blast of cold water!

(warm water, shampoo, warm water, conditioner, cold water )

unless you have friends like this!

Review: Royce Nama Chocolate

I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favourite kind of chocolate! :D

It literally melts in my mouth and the richness of the chocolate just explodes in the mouth like a volcano.

The chocolates are literally finger licking good. I couldnt bear to waste even the choc dustings.

I love the au lait flavour. Its slight sweetness carries the chocolate to sheer perfection, allowing me to fully appreciate the quality and smoothness of the chocolate.

I don't care that it is packaged with a ice pack to preserve its temperature while on the journey home.
I love it for its taste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The chocolate has won me over completely.

Who says professors are not fun?

"Porcus has been negligent in failing to pursue a lead in a news report on the outbreak of a new virus in Roviostan which infects birds to become angry and violent, and in due course this virus hits the ostrich farms causing the birds to run amok and attack pigs in neighbouring farms."

Review: Groupon

I had to call Groupon because the voucher that I printed for Charme Hair Studio was drenched in the rain and the authorisation code was illegible.

I was very satisfied by Groupon's service staff! So polite and sweet. Maybe it was comparative but the dude seemed very nice..

I didnt get to speak to a customer service officer immediately. I had to press a few buttons to get to that stage.
I had to provide my email address, my real home address to get the authorisation code.

The entire process was very fast and simple!

The hardest decision of my childhood

Oh sooo true!
Gone are the days where the hardest decision involved video games. Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur are all good! How could I compare and choose? I wanted, no I needed all 3!
Gone are the days where our world would collapse when we did not get ice cream (sometimes it still does).
Oh what memories.

Maybe 20 years from now, when I look back at my life now.. the decisions that I make would seem minuscule.

All part of growing up i guess.

Review: Samsung SyncMaster B1930

Got a new monitor for my laptop from Hardwarezone. It is clear and good enough for normal use.

I got it for $80, brand new in bag. Good deal!

Advice: Dont buy too big a monitor if your computer's graphic card is not good!!! Might get fried.

Review: Plus! BigDeal

Bigdeal is one of the many deals website which sprouted after the success of Groupon.

I am quite a cheapo so I have bought many deals from various websites.

But I must say that Bigdeal has the best customer service of those that I have tried.
I received a reminder on the 21st to remind me of my coupon which expires on 31st. Excellent customer service. Great way to distinguish itself from the pack!!
