Review: Patrick Watermelon Mint

Bought this mint in 711, Taiwan. It costs 45twd, roughly $2 It is slightly sour but not as sour as sourheads.
Bought it mainly for the design!! :)

There are a few other designs but none with bob filling the entire box. Patrick is cute too! I'm now using the container for other mints! :D

Review: Sony Cybershot TX5 - underwater camera

The Sony TX5 is a waterproof (up to 3m) and shockproof (up to 1.5m) digital camera. I LOVE IT! The colours on the photos are vivid and detailed enough. The lens, is also wide enough for group photos, which comes in handy for overseas shots when you need to capture both the people and the landscape. Battery life is also goood; able to last for a entire day out.

We had a lot of fun with the underwater function in the pool. It was hard trying to pose underwater but that was part of the fun! :)

The camera also does night shots well. My friends commented that the flash is pretty strong.

However, it is VERY prone to scratches and nicks. I dropped the camera while squatting and there are visible nicks already. I wonder how the camera will deal with a 1.5m drop… After dropping it, the camera hanged for a little while. When I tried to on it, it said system corrupt or something like that. I had a shock, but it was revived after I took out the battery, waited for a lil while and put it back in. I now put it in a hard case to protect it. J

If you are wondering why my TX5 looks a bit funky, that’s because the paint on the sliding cover peeled when I accidentally left it in water overnight. You see, the instructions recommended a soak in clean water after usage in pool/sea water. I totally forgotten about my camera when I was in Bali and the paint was ‘bloated’ when I came back. I got a HUGE shock!! The paint had lost its ‘stickiness’ so I just peeled it off. Fortunately, the camera was still working! the sliding cover is like a mirror now.
Moral of the story, please follow instructions and soak in only for 30 mins. And mask your camera if you are into its looks.

Oh, sometimes there will be a popup reminding you to close the cover tightly and check if there are any particles in the cover. It almost always appear after I open the battery cover to charge or remove the SD card. Not too sure if it means anything or just a gentle reminder but I just press the shoot button and use it as per normal.

Review: Bali

Was in Bali for 5 days in mid-May. Stayed in a villa with a private pool. It was awesome! It was extremely sunny and I got burnt by the sun! Stay protected guys and girls!

I love the view from the Monkey Temple! The view overlooking the ocean from the cliff was gorgeous!! I didnt managed to catch the sunset there, but it was already breathtaking.

Caught the sunset from the beach at Wonderland. The waters is more suitable for pro surfers i feel. The waves are a lot stronger than the ones at Kuta.

I highly recommend the bbq corn. It costs around 10k rp. Please do remember to bargain! The charcoal gave the corn a unique taste, and the sweet sauce that they add tastes goooooooooood!
The satay is nice too! it is very different from what we find here in Singapore.

Bali is actually not for snorkeling! Although the sand is soft, the beach is not as clear as Redang, Malaysia.
I played many watersports like Parasailing, flying fish, body boarding, surfing.
I went with a indon, so the prices were still acceptable. :)

The nightlife in Bali is okay. There are alot of pubs and clubs along the memorial site for the Bali bombing.

My friends and I got into a incident tho... There was a indon girl who appeared to have taken drugs.. she just came up to my friend and gave him a slap.. she wanted to slap my other friend but his gf stopped her and we got into a little fight. It is the pub which gives out bandanas to customers.

Review: Sasha hair vitamin

Bought this from carrefour, batam. It can also be found in most supermarkets in batam. It costs around 21,000rp which is around $3+ for 40 capsules. (this is alot cheaper than Ellips hair capsules which costs around 40k rp for 50 capsules. )

One factor that I consider essential for hair products is smell. I just used one of the capsule and it smells good! It smells tangy but still sweet.

It is actually just hair oil packaged in capsules. Some hair oil is so heavy that it really weighs down hair and causes hair loss! The Sasha hair vitamins isn't too heavy and does moisturise the hair. Untangles hair pretty well.

I dont think I can find this easily in Singapre tho. Haha.

Review: Data plan

Most would think it's stupid to have a smart phone without a data plan. Well, not me!

My first smart phone was a htc diamond, I then changed to nokia n97 and now I'm using a iPhone 4.. I have never gotten a data plan and do not have any regrets!

As a student, I do not need to check my emails 24/7. I figured that my data plan would be mostly used for Facebook. Sure, i might read the news occasionally. But I still prefer newspapers. They are more substantial and detailed.
So I asked myself, if Facebook were to charge me $10(cost of data plan) to use their services, would I accept?

Since i am always either in school or at home or at some mall, data plan isnt essential! I can always tap on my schools network or wireless sg.

Alternatively, I can just use the old school method and call up a friend in times of emergency.

So save some money and cancel your data plan today!

Review: Rich Dad Poor Dad

I was motivated by a friend to read more about Robert Kiyosaki. He posted a video about Kiyosaki. Kiyosaki was talking about the four different quadrants of people. I didn't finish watching the video. Instead, I read the book.

My friend asked for my opinion and to him, I responded in a poor dad way. I said that opening a business is too risky for me. I am obsessed with security. I believe that businesses are risky and not worth the risk.
Sure, you can get very rich but the time and the risk are too overwhelming. I want freedom but I value stability too!

Kiyosaki understood that being a business owner is one of the toughest thing a person can do. I agree. This is especially so for big businesses! Honestly, I think it is hard to be on the Rich Dad's column as a business owner; I would rather be a Investor.

When I graduate, I would be a specialist. Maybe open my own firm; but if I were to remain in my industry, it would most likely be a small one. However, I think that small businesses could generate enough passive income to fund my doodads too! I just need to hire people who are smarter than me!

Actually even before I realised it, I was exercising some of the lessons of financial intelligence that kiyosaki advocated.
I am a geek and I wanted a iPhone 4. DOODADS are bad but irresistible! I know that my Mama would not buy it for me because it was simply too pricey.
To afford my iPhone 4, I started doing a small business. I realized that Singapore was one of the first few countries to get the iPhone. So what I did was to buy from apple store and sell it to people online. Through that, I earned my iPhone without much effort.
The phone cost $888 but I was able to sell it for >$1000, sometimes even $1100. The ROI was pretty good for the effort and time.

Now, my primary aim is to get enough positive-assets (a house is not a positive-asset if it doesn't generate a positive income! Kiyosaki does not even recognise houses that are not income-producing as assets!). I WANT FREEDOM! I do not have the $ to buy real estate. All I can do now is to put my money in stock indexes or a few good stocks. Diversity is only for idiots who do not know what they are doing. There is no risk if you are financially literate.

I realise that the Finance courses in school do not teach you about such stuff. All I remember from my Finance course was a hell lot of graphs and risk being measured by beta. Thats all.

I am still in the midst of reading Adam Khoo's Secrets of a self-made millionaire. Will update once I am done! :)

Quotes/Ideas from the book

  • One of the wonders of the world is the power of compound interest
  • Show me a happy loser, and I'll show you a loser.
  • Most people dream of being rich, but are terrified of losing money.
  • so it is the fear of the government or other people you owe money to that motivates you?
    • Use the fear of the bully to make myslef stronger
  • Their friends who have no money have never come to them to ask how they did it. But they do come asking for one of two things, or both: 1. a loan, or 2. a job.
  • Being an Indian giver -what and when can I get my money back.
    • Tying up cash is okay if I can get the asset for free. ( If the ROI is good enough, the passive income collected from the Asset exceeds the initial investment and the Asset becomes 'free' )
    • Put money in a stock which the company is about to make a move that will add value to the stock (announcing a new product) (maybe IPO?) and taking out the initial money after a week to a month while the stock moves up. This way, dont have to worry about fluctuations.
      • seems like it will only work if the increase is huge.
  • Money is a powerful force; unfortunately, people use the power of money against them
  • make an offer with the words, subject to approval of business partner

If you just google, you can find a lot of analysis into the book. Most aren't too nice about it tho.

Review: L'oreal Revitalift Double Eye Lift

Got this from my mum. She stopped using it, so it probably wasn't very useful for her. But she has a habit of not finishing her beauty products, so I wouldn't really trust her. :)

I am in my 20s and only tried the L'oreal Revitalift Double Eye Lift because I needed a moisturizer for my eye area.

I have been using it for a week now, and I like it!
I don't really have wrinkles but I do have natural eye bags and dark eye circles. Although I haven't seen any significant improvements to my eye bags or dark eye circles, it really lifted my eyelids!

I was born with inner double eye lids (it looks a lot like single eyelids; the crease can only be seen very vaguely). I think it's because of droopy eye lids; my sister-in-law said that it was because my eyelids are too fat and covered my double eyelid.

Well, after using the product, my double eyelids are a lot more visible. I thank L'oreal for it! I think it lifted the fatty eyelids to reveal the crease! :)

Just realised that Niu Er from nv ren wo zui da often recommends this product! according to a US consumer report, it is better than branded brands!!

Review: Merose Hair Restorer

Bought this from a random beauty shop in AMK some time back. Around $15-$18 if I'm not wrong. It is from Merose Hair cosmetics Tokyo Japan. I tried googling the company but did not get any results. So yes, it is a bit dodgy and random.

So if you like to buy random products or have already bought one, read on...

According to the label, it is supposed to activate hair roots and prevent hair from dropping. It can also restore hair healthiness and shine! I have been using it on-and-off for a few months now (before the spray spoilt).

I haven't seen much improvement, but I have to admit that it feels damn shiok! It feels like a scalp treatment, very very minty and cooling. Excellent for itchy scalp!!
I believe it is a lot cheaper than other similar products on the market!

Review: Sunsilk leave on conditioner

The leave on treatment smells very sweet! I have the silky smooth and the damage repair one. I think the silky smooth one with the yogurt really smells very nice! Even if it doesn't work, I will still buy it for it's smell. Works like a hair perfume!

It works best when applied onto semi-wet hair. It smoothens hair well and is very affordable. Good for humid Singapore! It might get a little oily so don't put too much!

Will continue using! :)
